Frequently asked questions
Which version should I use?
v4 is the safe default. Choose v7 when IDs become database keys — they sort by creation time and index better.
What are NIL and MAX UUIDs?
Special values: NIL is all zeros (like a null), MAX is all ones — handy as sentinel boundaries.
What is inside a v7 UUID?
A Unix timestamp in milliseconds plus random bits, so v7 values stay roughly time-ordered.
Can two v4 UUIDs collide?
Practically no: there are 2^122 random v4 values — collisions are astronomically unlikely.
