Frequently asked questions
How do I add VAT to an amount?
Multiply the net amount by (1 + rate/100): 1000 + 20% VAT = 1000 × 1.2 = 1200. For 22%: 1000 × 1.22 = 1220.
How do I extract VAT from a gross amount?
VAT = gross × rate / (100 + rate). From 1220 at 22%: 1220 × 22 / 122 = 220. The net amount is 1000.
What is the difference between adding and extracting VAT?
Adding computes tax on top of a net amount. Extracting pulls the tax out of an already inclusive final price.
Can I use a custom rate?
Yes — type any percentage; the presets are shortcuts for common rates (such as 20% and 22%).
How do I calculate VAT for several items?
Use the price × quantity mode: enter the unit price and the number of items, and the calculator applies the tax to the whole batch at once.
How is rounding handled?
Each amount is rounded to two decimals (cents); net + VAT equals gross. The per-unit block taxes a single price; the batch total taxes price × quantity.
