Tools for video calls: mic, camera, speakers
Check microphone level, webcam and speakers in the browser before Zoom, Meet or Teams. No install, no account.
Open the mic check first and speak at normal volume. You want a moving meter without clipping. If the peak sticks at the top, drop input gain in the OS, not in the meeting app.
Then the camera: lighting from the front beats a window behind you. The preview is the same feed the call will use, so a frozen frame here means a frozen frame there.
Finish with the speaker test: left/right and a tone. Bluetooth headsets often need a second permission prompt. Latency in the mic studio is a hint if you hear yourself delayed.
Before a call, check the mic level while the room is quiet, then while you talk. Headphones stop the speaker test from feeding back into the mic. A camera preview tells you if the lens cap, a virtual camera, or a dark exposure is the problem. This page groups those three checks. Each one still has its own tool page with the steps and the FAQ.
FAQ
Does the site join the call?
No. Checks run in this tab. Close it before you start Zoom or Meet.
Why no sound?
The browser blocked autoplay or the wrong output device is selected. Pick the headset in both OS and browser.
Is video uploaded?
No. Camera and mic stay in the browser process.
