Tools for streaming: mic, camera, screen
Check microphone, webcam and screen resolution or DPR before you go live. Browser-only, no install.
Mic first: watch the meter while you talk at stream volume. Clipping here will clip in OBS too. If you use a USB interface, pick it in the browser device list, not only in the DAW.
Camera next. Auto-exposure fighting a backlight is the usual “I look like a silhouette” bug. Fix the lamp, then look at the preview; software filters will not recover a crushed face.
Screen info reports CSS pixels, device pixels and DPR. A 2× display at 1920×1080 CSS is 3840×2160 at capture. Match that to your encoder so you do not upscale mush or downsample a 4K canvas by accident.
A stream fails in three different places: the mic is quiet, the camera is the wrong device, or the capture resolution is not what the layout assumed. Speaker check matters if you monitor in headphones. This page groups mic, camera, and screen info. It does not replace the full camera studio, where you record and filter.
FAQ
Does this replace OBS?
No. It is a device lab before you start the encoder.
Why is DPR not 1?
HiDPI laptops report 1.25–2. Capture size is CSS size × DPR unless you set a scaled canvas.
Is the camera recorded?
Only if you hit record in the camera tool. Going live is still your streaming app.
