Extract VAT from a price that already includes it
Pull net and VAT out of a tax-inclusive price, or add VAT on a net amount. Set the rate once.
Gross means the price already includes VAT. Net = gross / (1 + rate). VAT = gross − net. Example: 120 at 20% → net 100, VAT 20.
The other mode adds tax: net × (1 + rate). Use it when a quote is ex-VAT and the invoice must show the tax line. Rates are yours to set: 5, 7, 10, 20, 21, 22 are common, not a legal table.
This is arithmetic, not tax advice. Rounding to 2 decimals matches money. Absurd magnitudes show overflow. Pair with the percent calculator for discounts before tax.
A gross price already includes the tax. At 22%, VAT inside 1220 is 1220 × 22 / 122 = 220, and the net is 1000. Adding 22% on top of 1220 would be a different question and a different button. Russia’s standard rate is 22% from 2026; a reduced rate is a different input, not a second formula. Quantity multiplies the price before the split, so 3 × 1220 at 22% is three times 220 of tax. This page opens in extract mode. The inclusive-versus-exclusive comparison explains which number you were given.
